I've been away from home since Thursday when I left for yet another trade show. Due to this show, I did not have the opportunity to attend the parent/teacher interviews for the boys, so I will have to make some appointments this week, I guess. Hubby didn’t even realize that report cards were sent home with the boys, so I guess I will be able to see those when I get home today.
Cuz and a number of friends attended the trade show I was working at this weekend. I didn't get to chat with them much during their visit, however. When they arrived at the show, I was on a break and not at the booth, and when they were done with the show, I was on another break, so now Cuz is of the impression that I never really 'work' when I'm at a trade show! ;o)
Yes, okay, I was at the food and wine sampling area when they first arrived, and I WAS having a shiatsu massage when they were leaving... but still, I do work hard when I am away - honest!! (hee hee)
Boss and I arrived on Thursday night and unloaded the truck and got the primary layout of the booth done that night. The next morning we arrived and finished setting up the booth so that we were ready for the show’s opening at noon. The Friday night went until 9pm, Saturday was from 10 until 6 – and was crazy-busy that day!! – and then Sunday was from 9 until 5. Last night (Sunday) was the first time we have ever been out of a show, finished dinner and climbing in to bed before 9pm!
I didn’t go straight to sleep though – I lay in my comfy bed and watched a couple episodes of CSI Nevada. So quiet…
This was one of the first-ever working weekends that I didn’t have my laptop with me, and since Hubby was so busy with the fishing club’s rainbow derby, he and I haven’t been in contact with each other very much since Wednesday. I’m sure we will both have a lot to catch up on tonight.
Next weekend is the last trade show I will be working until February. I’m not going to be sad.

Last one for a while...
I am really looking forward to not having a working weekend...
But alas, that is not to be for this current weekend.
As I was getting ready for bed last night, I thought, "Oh, I'll just pack in the morning." Then, about 10 minutes later, I realized I'd already pulled all the clothes I needed out, so I just put them in to the bag.
I'm getting so used to having to pack light - and often - that I actually have a travel cosmetic bag and a bag full of necessary toiletries that I just hang on the back of the bathroom door. When it's time to pack, I grab those two things and I know I've got everything I'll need, and then some.
Actually, when I was at the Governor's conference, I used the little sewing kit thingy twice. I've travelled all over the place with that thing for almost 2 years and never needed it, then last week I used it twice in a matter of three days. Guess it's a good thing I'm a pack rat and never throw anything away.
I'm really proud of S this year. He has coped very well with my being away. I wasn't sure how that would go since we have weened him from his anxiety medication, but it would appear that he has adjusted well to that change, too.
Looking forward to getting back in touch with my friends, and hearing about what everyone's been up to. I am really looking forward to a visit with my newly bionic cuz - can't wait to see how well she's doing. I understand her physiotherapy is going well; but of course I don't get to chat with her much right now.
That will change next weekend. I won't have another show for a number of months, and those will actually be mid-week shows, so that won't even be the same.
Wow - were did February go? Looked at the calendar last night and realized that I hadn't changed it over from January! Yup - that's about right - started all this the last week of January, didn't I?
Soon life will be back to 'somewhat' normal again. Can't wait.

The light is dawning
On Monday night, I asked the A-man if he project partner had been able to establish some work together time. Apparently not.
I then informed the A-man that he was going to have to do this project on his own, and I also asked that he pick a place and get started on the information as soon as possible as two weeks had already passed, and the report would be due before he knew it.
That night, he spent quite a bit of time doing research. He had decided to do his Tourism report on the capital of Lithuania. We had been invited over for a traditional Lithuanian meal on Saturday night in honour of our friend's father. (He'd passed away last week.) The A-man was thrilled to hear what we would be eating - it involves a lot of potatoes and bacon.
Since that meal was fresh in his mind, and we had seen these friends twice over the weekend (they took pity on us for not having power and fed us again on Sunday night...), I guess he just thought it would make sense to learn more about their culture. I love this kid.
On Tuesday morning, I woke up early because I was stewing about some work issues. After I dealt with the issues at hand, I took a look at the information provided by the A-man's teacher, and formulated a sheet that he would be able to utilize for information gathering. After I had completed this, I showed it to him, and explained that by putting all of the information directly into a Word document, he would then be able to do some cut and paste of the information and create both his hand in report and his PowerPoint presentation that he is required to do.
I'm not totally certain he understood what I meant, but when he realized this was the format I often follow at work for large presentations, he seemed to think it wasn't too bad an idea.
As he has been doing his research this week, and putting the information in to the document, I can see that he is understanding what I meant more and more.
I am away at a trade show this weekend, but have encouraged the A-man to complete all of the research this weekend, and then I will help him arrange the information for the written portion during the coming week. The written portion is required by Friday and then he will present to the class on December 3.
The presentation portion is required to be 30 minutes long, and this is where the PowerPoint will come in to play. He is also going to have to prepare this Lithuanian dish at least once this week so that we can take pictures of him making it. These will be used in the written information AND the PowerPoint portion. He will then also have to make the dish the night before his presentation because he will have to serve it to the class.
There is a lot of work to be done, and I think he is starting to understand why I was becoming concerned. I'm sure he will do great on the final information gathering - he's been very interested in the country since he started the research and has been very intent on telling me what he has learned.
I have a few things going on this week, and my hope is that he will be able to complete the written portion with very little assistance, and then next weekend I can help him with his slide show details.
S has been really good at working on his homework every single night, this week. Since I have taken the television from them on school nights, I have been amazed at how quickly he is willing to do whatever chores are asked of him when they are asked. He's not as resistant to doing his homework, either, and now starting to realize that on occassion, I will relax the rule and let them take in one show after all the other things are done.
Got an IM from my mother in law this morning telling me that she had a great night with S last night and that he left for school in great spirits. Always like to hear that.
Been doing some work here in the hotel room. Found out yesterday (as I was trying to do hotel check in) that some advertising material was required today for some ads I placed for a client. Great. Have been trying to get in touch with the magazine people to confirm ad size, and also with our graphics department to confirm information can be uploaded today. Have not had success as quickly as I had hoped for, but I think I might be getting there, now. Need to get out of here so housekeeping can do their job...
Also hoping to be able to get in an hour or two of Christmas shopping before I have to be at the show!

October 1
HOW can it already be October? In my heart of hearts, I still feel like it should still be August. Where has the time gone?
Hubby is currently on the afternoon shift, and was on the afternoon shift last week as well. Last week, I had stuff going on every single night except Friday. The A-man made the comment that he had to cook dinner every night and he didn't like that responsibility. This statement was not quite true, but I am sure he felt like he was doing a lot more than usual. I was in bed on Friday night at 10 pm - the earliest of all week long.
Saturday was a friend's daughter's wedding. Sunday I went grocery shopping for the week and has asked the A-man if he could clean out the fridge while I was out. (I just meant go through and get rid of mostly-empty containers, that sort of thing.) He did clean out the fridge, but he also took the job one step further. He reorganized each shelf to make it "Proton Friendly" (or something to that effect.)
The A-man is taking a Hospitality and Tourism course, and they are required to learn all about safe kitchen standards, etc. He was very serious while explaining the theory behind my revamped fridge. He even wipe down all of the shelves and then mopped the floor afterward. (I know - I'm still wondering where my child is...)
Monday morning was not a good one for me. Quite simply, I think I was beat. I had gone in to work on Sunday afternoon, then Boss made dinner for Hubby and I - was another late night. I was very tired on Monday and the "cleaning of the fridge" left much mess/garbage in the kitchen that hadn't been cleaned up. I didn't take the messy kitchen very well.
Monday night - fitness class.
Tuesday, work in the morning, then off to the city for a wine event for work.
Wednesday, back from city to home to quickly put something in the slow cooker for dinner. Work, then dinner, then off to a board meeting.
Thursday night - dinner with "the girls."
Friday - off to Montreal for the weekend.
No wonder I am beat. I was actually very grateful that the event finished early(ish) last night and I was able to just have some downtime in my hotel room. I even watched more than one half-hour television show. (wild child, huh?)
My poor babies - they are missing me, too. I will make it up to them when I get home tonight and again tomorrow night.

Another city, another hotel
This time - Montreal. I have never been to downtown Montreal before. Although I don't speak the language - at least, not French as it should be - I know we will do just fine. Sister-in-law is in tow, so she will help us out with any language issues. Still waiting for her to arrive, though. Her train was delayed - I'm still trying to figure out how trains get delayed...
The show begins tomorrow at noon, but I am sure Boss will want us all there for 9am for the final prize set-ups, etc., and to train the staff that are new to the whole event - such as sister-in-law. When she (finally) arrives, I will be heading off with her and co-worker and client to have some dinner. Apparently there isn't a bad restaurant in Montreal.
The boys both got up to see me off this morning. Once they realized I would be home in time to get them off to school, they didn't seem to upset about my leaving again. I went to the office until 2, and then it was pretty smooth from then on. Co-worker and I arrived at airport with no problems, had a drink and a sandwich and got on the plane. I was just getting in to the proposal I was working on, and was told it was time to pack it in, because we are landing. Toronto to Montreal in less than an hour - technology at it's best!

Feeling beat already...
still have another hour here for the move-in, and I must admit, I am very tired tonight. I don't think I am going to go out for dinner with the other staff members. I take out meal, up in my rooms is sounding very nice right now. I can put on my jammers, cuddle under the blankets, and just have a down evening. I've been here since 8 this morning, and I think, today, I have had enough.
A terrible winter storm has hit the region today. Everything here in the city is either cancelled or closed. Funny enough - people from Toronto (a close city) are calling and saying they can't make it until the morning, but people from Pennsylvania and Michigan hav already arrived and set up! Guess the difference if is y0u have the option, you will take it. If you don't, you just keep on going.
S had another snow day today. Probably just as well - he would have probably not had a good day. Never does when I am away. He did really well on his fMRI testing yesterday, apparently. He was able to lay still for the duration, and they were able to get all of the testing they wanted to do, done. Now I will just have to wait for the results, I guess.
That's all for now. I don't have free wireless in my hotel room, which is making me cranky, but I can access it here at the Convention Centre. I have a strategic plan I am working on for the ADHD association, so I think I will try to finalize that tonight, and then I can email my thought to the consultant in the morning when I get back here. See? Another good reason to stay in the room - so that I can get some 'other' work done!

Show 1 almost done
Yesterday is a blur.
I woke up before 5 am, thinking about things that needed to be done when I returned to the show office. At 5, I sat up and started making notes about said things. Laid back down at 5:20. Back up at 5:45 and stayed there. (I am NOT a morning person, for those that aren't aware.)
Met boss in hotel lobby at 7:20 - was at the Centre for 8, and didn't actually have a chance to sit again until about 3:30. Turned my radio off and closed the door of my office - until an exhibitor came in.
6:30 - exhibitor reception. 8pm - dinner with clients, and potential new clients. Back to room for 11pm. I am meeting boss in lobby for 8:30 this morning, so I got a GOOD sleep last night.
We will be driving back home tomorrow, but I am going to hope that he won't rush the departure. A good, long sleep-in would be wonderful.
Hubby called me yesterday. S had some difficulties on Friday - Gramma had to come and get him from school, and either hubby or I need to bring him to school on Monday am to discuss. Neither hubby nor I can be there, so I guess I will be contacting the principal when I get back home - early afternoon. Don't really know the details at this point.
Okay - off for another day! Guess this will be the same in two weekends, but then I will be going on vacation!!

Wake up call
Hmpf. Not a good start to my day...
Sleeping, quite comfy cosy in my bed, here in the hotel room..... 12:30am, phone rings. It's the front desk - wanting to know who I am. (Hello? It's 12:30...I'm SLEEPING, is who I am...)
The system didn't show anyone in this room, and they had just registered guests - who had tried to come in, but thank GOODNESS I fliped that security bar! (I will ALWAYS make sure I flip that bar from now on. I usually do, but I now I know I always will.)
I had also requested a 7am wake up call. Yeah, didn't get one. So, I'm moving a wee bit behind, but not too bad. Boss will be meeting myself and co-worker in the lobby for 7:45 to head over to the Centre.
Time to start the move in process. Okay... and we're off!
